Has the Democratic Party moved to the far left?

I am puzzled by the success of Barack Obama who by 2 major registries is named the most liberal member of the US Senate. I support Hillary Clinton because my views are much closer to the center than to the far left. I feel that if the party I have been a member of for 32 years has moved this far from the center, it may be time for me to switch to the Republican party because I agree with Senator McCain a lot more than I agree with Barack Obama. I feel the Democratic party has left those of us who are more moderate behind and that I am no longer with a party that once was for the little guy and the working man and is now tied up with the elitist far left such as many of those who are supporting Obama like the Hollywood types.
