Is a solid-body guitar with a piezo a good idea?

Been toying with the idea for awhile now. There's a Tele that goes both ways, and I just saw a Steinberger Baritone that has a piezo; both are about a grand, give or take. I really don't want to go much higher. The question is: Are they worth it, or just mediocre as electric and acoustic?
